Deanna Spence is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Capella University with honors and a Master of Social Work from University of Southern California. Deanna also comes to us with a military background; serving in the United States Air Force she was honorably discharged in 2012. This background has also shaped the dedication and motivation Deanna has with all her clients, to never give up and to keep pushing forward. Deanna specializes in treating mood disorders and past trauma/PTSD using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. She has also been trained through UC Davis to provide Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for those struggling to process and overcome one’s pain. She enjoys working with children, adolescents, young adults, and families.
While in her MSW program at USC she interned at an inpatient psychiatric hospital in the Sacramento area where she provided crisis assessment and intervention to both adolescents and adults; working to increase patient’s coping skills, and create a strong plan for discharge. Deanna has also had experience working in community mental health in the greater Sacramento region, providing individual and family therapy to children and adolescents. During this time Deanna supported adolescents to better manage life’s stressors in order to grow into themselves as independent and successful individuals. She understands how important the family system is to a young child and works to enhance family strengths. She supports the child in becoming more mindful of how their thoughts affect their emotions, allowing them to truly see the connection of how their behaviors have an impact on their lives and others. She supports you to increase your own self-awareness, self-compassion, and self-esteem to instill motivation for you to be capable to succeed with your life goals.
Later on Deanna went into group practice to provide individual and family therapy to children, adolescents, and young adults. She worked with a wide array of mood disorders, coordinated care with in house medical providers where appropriate, and successfully provided emergency resources for clients in crisis. Deanna is a LCSW who provides a supportive, safe space, for you to be heard and to heal. Together we will learn various skills, techniques, and process underlying problem areas. Together we will work to increase and enhance your well-being.
Outside of her professional interests, Deanna values spending time with her husband and two children, friends, and pets. In her spare time she studies fashion and costume design. She has an adventurous heart for traveling and culture. Deanna is a strong advocate for positive change, both in her private and professional life.
